Many Thanks

Dear All,

Thanks for showing up to the SPE lunch. SPE appreciates your support. Although, i think the food was a bit of a hiccup. But rest assured, this will go to our learning points in the SPE follow through meeting. We do hope you guys have a nice time.

In any way, if you have any feedbacks, please leave it on the comment section below, NOT the tag board, for i fear i would not be able to pick those feedback up. I will guarantee that the feedback be brought up in the next SPE committee meeting for the consideration of future improvements.

As for pixies, thanks to Yazid who has kindly volunteered his time to take pictures. I'll post them up as soon as they are available in the petroserver.

Kind Regards,
Airul Hafneh (Darth Airul)
Secretary to SPE UNSW Chapter.

Changes To Academic Year

Dear Students,

You will have noted in the 2008 Calendar, posted on myUNSW, that major

changes to the University's academic calendar are taking effect from 2008.
I thought it important to explain to you the reasons behind the changes,
and how they will affect you.

The changes have been under discussion for some time, and approved by both
the Academic Board and the University Council. They have been introduced
to streamline our teaching and learning, and bring UNSW in line with
other Australian universities. Previously, UNSW had longer teaching and
examination sessions than any other Go8 university. Session lengths at
UNSW have not been changed in over 40 years, and new pedagogic practices
mean that learning and teaching is today done in a very different fashion.
Many students are spending part of their degrees in industrial placements
or on international exchange, and the changes will facilitate this.

The Vice-Chancellor has therefore approved changes that will shorten the
standard teaching period length from 14 to 12 weeks of classes. The summer
session will continue, but will be offered in a standard timetable of 8
weeks, with a standard examination period and schedule for finalisation of
results.

The features of the new calendar are as follows:
- The academic year will be divided into 3 - Semester 1, Semester 2,
and Summer Term.
- Semester 1 and 2 will have a 12 week standard teaching period.
Semester 1 will, as at present, be preceded by O-week. In addition, the
week before the commencement of Semester 2 will be used for
Faculty-specific scheduled activities such as Engineering Week, excursions
etc.
- The summer term will consist of an 8 week summer teaching period,
divided into 2 x 4 week periods conducted before and after Christmas/New
Year.
- Teaching in all courses will be conducted within the start and end
dates defined for each teaching period. This will apply to the Summer Term
in particular.
- Fee, enrolment and census dates will be set for each teaching
period
- As is already the case in 2007, students will be able to enrol by
Semester, rather than by year.
- The assessment and examination periods will be shortened. The
increased space between Semester 1 and Semester 2 will ensure students
receive their results in time to make informed choices about courses for
the next semester.
- Earlier scheduling of graduation ceremonies will be possible.
The revised academic calendar applies to all programs at Kensington and
COFA campuses with the exception of the undergraduate Medicine program.
The changes do not apply to ADFA.

The 2008 calendar for award programs offered through the AGSM in the
Faculty of Business is to be confirmed.

We anticipate that the 2007/8 Summer Term will be administered on the
basis of the 2008 Calendar changes, commencing on 26 November.
Further information, including the new Academic Calendar, can be found via
the myUNSW portal. Enquiries can be made directly to calendar@unsw.edu.au

Best wishes,
Professor Joan Cooper
Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Students) & Registrar

Veni, Vidi, Vici

"Assalamualaikum warahmatullah wabarakatuh. Saya Dk Waznah Pg Hj Ali. Berita-berita utama...

This is how events unfolded earlier this evening...

DRM Syd supporters literally held their breath when Yazid successfully dodged and saved the ball by opponent, Black Balls in the 2nd minute after a 5.12pm kick-off. The game just came to life...

This was apparent when Black Ball's goalie had no chance against Fadhli's opening goal (sound familiar?) in the 4th minute. Twenty seconds later, the opposition broke through our defence and scored. In the 3rd and a half minute, Asqa would have scored the perfect header but he was not going to give up because he slipped the ball past the goalkeeper a minute and a half later.

Chances scoring a goal twice from corner kicks slipped through but a sweet goal by Hafiz in the 11th minute brought the score to 3-2. With a minute and a half left before the half-time whistle, the opponents stepped up their game and scored their second goal the beginning of the 15th minute.

At half-time, the score was 3-2 to DRMSyd.

Whatever Sulhi said to his fellow teammates during half-time certainly worked because Sulhi scored a 4th one for DRM, aided by Fadhli just minutes into the second half. The opposition kicked back by scoring 2 minutes later. In the 22nd minute, Faiq made a comeback to try and improve DRM Syd's game. The crowd went wild when our super-goalie,Yazid made a great reaction save - anything to not bring the game to a tie.

It was too good to be true. Black Balls brought the game to a tie when they scored a goal in the 24th minute. The score became 4-all.

With six minutes left in the game, it was hell hath no fury. Tempers of players heightened regarding some of the referee's decisions; so were the levels of testosterone. The cheers of supporters increased in volume. Huff and puff, DRM Syd would fight.

Our man of the match, our very own, wearing Alain Delon shorts today, Fadhli brought the house down when he broke the tie seconds before the end of the game. We won! We won!

It could be said that victory was written in the lines of destiny for DRM Sydney this evening. Veni, Vidi, Vici - We came, we sought, we conquered. In memory of their 5-win streak and sweet victory tonight, each were awarded a medal by MSO's Sports Representative.

Great job DRM Sydney! You guys rock!

Then there was four

The match between DRM Sydney and AKA kicked off at 6.24pm this evening in the Multi-purpose hall of UNSW's Unigym. Starting line-up was Fadhli, Majdi, Sulhi, Asqa and super-goalie, Yazid. Also, it was nice to see Faiq back to play. Overall, it was a intense match, the referee's decisions were sometimes questionable and it had DRM Sydney's loyal supporters on the edge of... erm... the floor. Anyways, it was like déja-vu when reliable striker, Fadhli who played with signature denim shorts scored the first goal in the third minute. He satisfied his hunger scoring another one in the 6th minute.

"Gagar... Memang gagar defence kitani apabila pihak lawan menjaringkan gol pada minit yang ke sembilan." 18 minutes into the game, the score was 4-3 to AKA. We were behind by one goal when the referee blew his whistle signalling half-time.

The team during half-time looked disturbed and tense. Through the lenses of appointed photographer, Aimi, DRM Sydney remained composed because nothing would break a burning will and spirit to defy the odds. Although, Fadhli's attempt at a hat-trick failed just minutes into the second half, goal number 4 to equalise was by Sulhi in the 26th minute. However, the shot of the day was from our man of the match, our defender numéro uno, Majdi scored the winning goal in the last minutes.

For fun, I asked around and this is what our supporters had to say about tonight's game:

Nisah (1st year): "I feel so marah with the refereee. Stressful lah olehnya. So intense meliat, si Izzah pun jua. Oh, and Zimah malas liat bula sal bula banyak di kedai".

Izzah (1st year): "Tadi kind of intense. Everyone seemed serious. Naik bulu roma saya. Kinda hate the referee...macam inda pandai judge but nasib jua kita menang. Kinda got excited brabisly. Lama dah inda meliat orang main bula since ke aussie ani and everyone was in the mood to win the game".

Darth Airul: *evil aura clearly radiating* "It was intense".

DRM's winning streak lives on and three became four. Next week: DRM Sydney will take on Black Balls, a match certainly worth watching but in the meantime, let DRM savour sweet victory.

A Birthday Wish

To fully take advantage of my position as admin... Enjoy!

Ehem... testing, testing...
Hey Mr DJ,

Check this microphone if you may,
Thought I might like to do this my way.

So, Let's drop this like 50 Cent,
We're gonna party like it's your birthday,
Without sipping the bicardi just 'cos it's your birthday,

You're celebrating in Sydney, hooray!

Without further ado, i'll give you a clue,
It's Yamin's on the 7th, au premier,
How his toe accident would bring a tear,
Still Yamin! Hands off that beer! :P

Next day on the 8th is Shirley's,
"Hey, let's go on a shopping spree please?"
Just like 9 comes after 8,
And Ta comes after Alif and Ba,
9th of May is for Salwa.

Just when you thought you had enough on your plate,

A good interest rate or a rebuttal in a debate,

Ling Wei's day would be 2 days after the 28,

On the 30th, now that we can't wait.

When we say we save the best for last, la-dee-dum-dum,

The last is one who is macho and hen-sem,

Don't forget to come 'cos he's the bum (??)
Fadhli's on the 29th, param pam-pam.

So those celebrating in May,

Hope you have a nice day,

And with a year, let's pray,
Y'all be cuter, cooler and wiser, ay?

Hot News

It's really rare that the EP Industry gets news like this..

BP boss John Browne quits after gay affair exposed

Link to News

If you can handle being the Chairman of the biggest energy company in the world in the outrageously fierce competition in the world energy market,

You should be able to handle gay allegations.

I would also like to take this opportunity to say that BP environmentalism is rubbish.
Thank you.

DRM Sydney Creed

DRM Brunei seems to have the spirit to create a creed, i reckon DRM Sydney should have our own creed. You know, something to give our identity. I'm too lazy to write one, but luckily i found something that suits us

Lyrics:
Kapa o pango kia whakawhenua au i ahau!
Hi aue, hi!

Ko Aotearoa e ngunguru nei!
Au, au, aue ha!

Ko Kapa o Pango e ngunguru nei!
Au, au, aue ha!

I ahaha!
Ka tu te ihiihi
Ka tu te wanawana
Ki runga ki te rangi e tu iho nei, tu iho nei, hi!

Ponga ra!
Kapa o Pango, aue hi!
Ponga ra!
Kapa o Pango, aue hi, ha!

Thats right! A Haka! We dont need fancy english, we're no europeans, lets go tribal, lets get loud, lets be fierce and intimidate the opponents (Yamin, you have to stand at the back, sorry). Our ancestors of panglimas and Lanuns wouldve done the same thing. From Scientific evidence, the Maoris, Aborigines, Torres Strait Islanders and Pacific Islanders came from the same family of Asians that migrated from Borneo and settled to Australia, New Zealand and other pacific islands. The same Asians that stayed and formed our Malay culture today. Let us unite the root of these culture and bridge them and give everyone else a Haka.

Can you imagine the look on other peoples' faces? priceless! priceless!

Learn them before summer comes!
