Hari Raya Celebration

First official event of the semester!

On 7th August 2016, BASS held a Hari Raya Celebration which was attended by almost 100 BASS members. The Guests of Honour for that event was Cg Pg Noor Shah, the Director of Studies of EAUC, Brunei Darussalam High Commission and spouse.

The event started with the recital of Al-Fatihah led by BASS Male RO, followed with all attendees singing the national anthem of "Allah Peliharakan Sultan". Welcoming remarks were then given by the BASS President and a speech by the Guest of Honour himself. The event was made even more livelier with performances from the students. The celebration ended with the prize giving ceremony of Best Male Dress and Best Female Dress. Potluck refreshments were then served to all.

This event also marked the first time the new BASS members attended a BASS-organised event here in Sydney. The new BASS members were also introduced to the seniors as well as the parents of BASS - Uncle Hj Saini, Aunt Zetty Hamid, Abg Eddy Hassan, Kaka Sabrina and Anna Saleha (daughter of Abg Eddy and Kaka Sabrina).

Deepest appreciation from BASS committee to everyone who attended the event and willing to provide food to be shared with everyone.

Appreciation Night for superBASS committee 2015/16

Assalamualaikum BASS members and alumni,

On 29th March 2016, Alhamdulillah, an appreciation event was organised to recognise the contribution and dedication of the previous committee members. The 9-members committee led by Nabilah Nipah was a group of people that is worthy of an appreciation.

Serving BASS voluntarily without asking anything in return, ensuring everyone's welfare is protected and on top of that, academic responsibilities, might give them a huge burden to bear for the past year but they did their jobs magnificently. Not everyone is perfect but they and the rest of the rest of the seniors are the people that we look up now.

For that, THANK YOU superBASS COMMITTEE!
President - Nabilah Nipah
Vice-President - Muqsith Yahya
Secretary - Nisa Nadzirah
Treasurer - Aziidah Jofri
Male Religious Officer - Faiz Anuar
Female Religious Officer - Ajeerah Julaini
Public Relations Officer -Zakiah Suhaili
IT Support - Ervin Chung
Logistics Officer - Firdaus Omarali

(Not sure if we were having an appreciation event or walimatul urus? hehehe)
(Current President and Vice-President - this was our first event!)
(Thank you to everyone who brought food that night! Everyone's graciousness to contribute for the potluck event was really something to be thankful for.)

At the same event, appreciation certificates were also presented to attendees who were present for Brunei Darussalam's 32nd National Day Celebration at Canberra, Australia in February. The Brunei High Commission was really impressed with your performance and willingness to travel to Canberra just to celebrate the auspicious day for our beloved country, Brunei Darussalam.

From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU EVERYONE!

End of 2013 Session 1: Solat Hajat and Farewell to seniors

Assalamualaikum. How is everyone? Apologies for being MIA. Here are some highlights of what the Sydney-siders were up to in the past 5 months.

Prior to the exams that were to commence on 17 June onwards, BASS organised a solat hajat event that was held at the Logde, Square House, UNSW on 8 June 2013. It was also a special occasion for everyone to bid farewell to the seniors who would be going back to Brunei for good by the end of the semester.

BASS Get-Together

Bismillahirrahmannirrahim.

Assalamulaikum. BASS organised a get-together event for all Brunieans on Friday, 29th March 2013 at UNSW Physics Lawn, prior to our mid-semester break.

Quoting from the event's page, the event's aims were stated as:

"So.... let's get together, and have a potluck hi-tea, as a kick-off to start our first mid-semester break 2013 together. Let's treat this as a warm up to start up our holiday and 'mengeratkan lagi silaturrahim'. Some of us might have already planned something during the Mid-Semester break, so we'll not touch and leave the break for you all to enjoy."

Annnnnnyhoo,

The event kicked off with welcoming remarks from the newly-elected President, Ahmad Bukhari and followed by a warming-up session led by Goh the treasurer. Before the members were allowed to eat, they had to play some games organised by BASS Committee. Let's have a look!

Lunch with HRD and Prof Rod Chaplin

Bismillahirrahmanirrahim.

Assalamualaikum. On 9 April 2013, Bruneians in Sydney were invited to a free lunch and get-together session, organised by HRD Services represented by Dr Smitha. The session was held in the Mechanical Engineering Block, Level 5.

Here is a piece of information, taken from HRD Services facebook page, about the event:

Gathering for Brunei students at UNSW

The recent lunch reception held for Bruneian students at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia, attracted a large group. The majority of Brunei students at UNSW are studying Petroleum or Chemical Engineering through the twinning arrangements with Institute Technologi Brunei. At the same time, there are also a number of students pursuing programmes in health, science and business.

The reception was hosted by Professor Rod Chaplin, Associate Dean International of the Faculty of Engineering at UNSW. Ranked in the top 40 in the world, the Engineering Faculty at UNSW is Australia’s leading and largest engineering faculty and produces 20% of the top 100 most influential engineers

The reception was an excellent platform for the students to share their experiences of studying at UNSW and living in Sydney. The students have settled down well and have even managed to travel a little around the region.

The students are enjoying the course, which they find to be stimulating and also challenging, and have the confidence that upon their return to Brunei, they will be highly employable, especially with Brunei’s expansion plans in the energy sector.

UNSW is represented in Brunei by HRD Services Global Education Link.

The Start of a New Semester

Assalamualaikum.

This should be posted more than 11 weeks ago, considering that we are already in week 11 of uni now. But let's just pretend that we are in Week O. Hahaha

Uni commences on 4th March 2013, quite late if we compare this to the previous years. This means most of us got to stay in Brunei till March (Yayyy!)

It was also time to appoint new committee members in BASS as most of the CURRENT ones (remember that we are in Week O) are going back for good in June/July this year. The appointment was made using a voting system.

And the results are...

Alhamdulillah things went well that day.

Insya Allah, we, in BASS, would do our best in making sure that all BASS family members are taken care of, physically, mentally and emotionally;) Do not hesitate to come to any of us if you have a problem. Our Mr President would be more than happy to attend you ;) hehe just kidding (nada wah Boh). Insya Allah we'll try to carry the responsibilities that are handed to us, by the hands of the voters. Let's keep on supporting each other ya?:)

Here are some pics of the event. Everyone looks soooooooooooo very much prepared and eager for the new semester, kan?

This is what we actually came for! FOOOOOD
