6th Annual BSU Presidential Conference

Heartfelt appreciation goes to BASS Alumni ladies for representing BASS as student leaders to the 6th Annual BSUnion Presidential Conference 2016 yesterday 13th August 2016 at UTB, Brunei.
Themed "High-Impact Societies: United On A Shoestring", the three ladies participated in a leadership workshop as well as an open discussion session based on the theme.
This was the first time BASS and other student leaders from Australia being invited to such conference.
Thank you Nabilah Nipah, Nisa Nadzirah and Ajeerah Julaini (previous President, Secretary and Female RO of BASS respectively) for attending the conference!

Hari Raya Celebration

First official event of the semester!

On 7th August 2016, BASS held a Hari Raya Celebration which was attended by almost 100 BASS members. The Guests of Honour for that event was Cg Pg Noor Shah, the Director of Studies of EAUC, Brunei Darussalam High Commission and spouse.

The event started with the recital of Al-Fatihah led by BASS Male RO, followed with all attendees singing the national anthem of "Allah Peliharakan Sultan". Welcoming remarks were then given by the BASS President and a speech by the Guest of Honour himself. The event was made even more livelier with performances from the students. The celebration ended with the prize giving ceremony of Best Male Dress and Best Female Dress. Potluck refreshments were then served to all.

This event also marked the first time the new BASS members attended a BASS-organised event here in Sydney. The new BASS members were also introduced to the seniors as well as the parents of BASS - Uncle Hj Saini, Aunt Zetty Hamid, Abg Eddy Hassan, Kaka Sabrina and Anna Saleha (daughter of Abg Eddy and Kaka Sabrina).

Deepest appreciation from BASS committee to everyone who attended the event and willing to provide food to be shared with everyone.

Arrival of New Students!

PCE 6th Intake students from UTB departed from Brunei Darussalam to Sydney, Australia in batches on 15th July, 18th July, 20th July, 21st July and 22nd July by using RBA and Qantas/Virgin Australia flights.

Altogether there were 66 new students - the largest batch ever of PCE! These new students will continue their remaining 2 years of degree programmes at UNSW, Australia after completing their first 2 years at UTB, Brunei.

The students were welcomed by the seniors at Domestic Terminal Airport and then they were brought around the University and the nearby shopping center to sort out the necessities.

Alhamdullilah, as of today, after 2 weeks in Sydney, all 66 students have got an accommodation (16 houses in total!) and hopefully have settled down and accommodated to Sydney lifestyle.

Briefings for the New Students

During the Winter Break, BASS committee members who returned back to Brunei for Raya celebration was invited to attend two pre-departure briefings for the new batch of students from Universiti Teknologi Brunei (formerly known as ITB) who would be going to Sydney, Australia to further their studies as part of the Petroleum and Chemical Engineering twinning programmes at UNSW.

The first briefing was hosted by HRD services, representative of UNSW in Brunei held at the Empire Hotel and Country Club on 12th July 2016. The briefing was conducted by Ms Soon Choo Chua, Deputy Director (Malaysia, Brunei and Singapore) of UNSW International. The formal event was also attended by HE Todd Mercer (High Commissioner of Austalia to Brunei), Assoc Prof Dr Hjh Zohrah Hj Sulaiman (Vice Chancellor of UTB), officers from the High Commission of Australia, MOE and BSP as well as parents.

BASS was also given an opportunity to give a sharing session to the new students and it was given by Faizul Azwan, BASS President of 2014/15 session.

The second briefing was held at Dewan P1, Ministry of Education on 18th July 2016. BASS committee was once again given the opportunity to deliver a sharing a session to the students on the lifestyle in Sydney conducted by BASS President of 2016/17 session, Mohammad Fazrul Wafiy. The briefing was in conjunction with the students' contract signing ceremony.


Majlis Ramah Mesra dan Junjung Ziarah bersama Rakyat di Taman SOAS, BSB

On Sunday 24th July 2016, Bruneians Around Sydney Society was invited by the Scholarship Section of the Ministry of Education to attend "Majlis Ramah Mesra dan Junjung Ziarah bersama Rakyat" at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar 'Ali Saifuddien. The event was held yearly in conjunction with His Majesty's Birthday celebration every 15th July.
